The Power of His Presence

Xperience   -

God’s presence is a game-changer. When Jesus came to earth to be the perfect sacrifice for us, something fundamental changed – He came to be with us, and when Jesus went up to Heaven, He sent us the Holy Spirit. As believers, the Holy Spirit is with us always, and we no longer have to be in a temple to be with Him.

God’s presence in our lives changes us and changes our circumstances – and all too often we don’t embrace all that His presence has in store. Understanding the vital importance of God’s presence in our lives is essential, and to fully understand it, we need to take a little look at history. Before Jesus came down to earth, God’s presence was in the temple. When Jesus came and dwelled with us, it changed everything – and since He sent the Holy Spirit, we get to live our lives in God’s presence. It is written in Matthew 1:18-21 (NIV): “This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit.  Joseph, to whom she was engaged, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly. As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. ‘Joseph, son of David,’ the angel said, ‘do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus for he will save his people from their sins.’ All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet: “Look! The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel – which means ‘God with us.’”

God with us. That is something we hear as Christians, especially during the Christmas season, but we rarely take hold of all that it means for us as sons and daughters of God.  What does it mean for us? So much. It means that we are empowered to walk in strength, comfort, and confidence in our daily lives, regardless of what we are dealing with in the world around us.

Understanding the Power of God’s Presence

  1. God’s presence brings strength when you are weak. We read in 1 Corinthians 2:3-5 (TPT): “I stood before you feeling inadequate, filled with reverence for God, and trembling under the sense of the importance of my words. The message I preached and how I preached it was not an attempt to sway you with persuasive arguments but to prove to you the almighty power of God’s Holy Spirit. For God intended that your faith not be established on man’s wisdom but by trusting in his almighty power.” God’s presence brings us strength – because it’s not about our own power, it’s about the importance of his words and his holiness.

  1. God’s presence brings comfort when you are afraid. John 14:27 (NLT) says: “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” He gives us peace of mind and peace in our hearts – and how often do we forget this? We have all felt the confusion and despair that come with feeling like we have to figure everything out on our own, and it is not a pleasant sensation. God’s presence brings us comfort in all circumstances, and it chases away the fear that tries to dominate us – so when you feel fear rising up, go to Jesus. He will bring you the comfort you need.

  1. God’s presence brings confidence when you are uncertain. Let’s look at the account of when Jesus healed the man who was blind from birth. John 9:17, 25 (NIV) tells us: “Finally they turned again to the blind man, ‘What have you to say about him?’ He replied, ‘Whether he is a sinner or not, I don’t know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!’” The man who had been blind didn’t have to know everything; but he knew that Jesus healed him. In other words, he didn’t know what tomorrow would hold, but he knew who held his future. God’s presence gives us the confidence that you don’t have to hold all the answers because He does.

God’s presence is powerful and gives us the strength, comfort, and confidence we need in order to walk in the fullness He has for us. Life has highs and lows – we all know that from experience. However, we do not have to struggle through whatever we are facing on our own. God is alongside you and since He is with you, you can stand up strong and bold in His truth, walking in the confidence that He will never leave you.
